Orange Oarfish

 Orange Oarfish. Watercolor. 15x22

Oh, watercolor, you're a challenge! But fun. So fun. I've painted the very interesting - and very real - fish known as the Oarfish before, in oils last time. I'm very fond of them. Inordinately fond! They're one of my favorite creatures in existence! And so it was fun to paint one in watercolors, and to feel like I did a better job this time.

I am so happy that the eye turned out great. I was so scared painting that eye. Messing that up could have ruined the whole thing. The stripes were done in colored pencil, and salt was added to make those speckled designs (sprinkle salt onto watercolor, and that's what you get! It's cool stuff).
